Cycling name?
Orca.
Why do you ride your bike?
I enjoy it. I cycle to work and even on holiday I try to cycle. I enjoy the freedom.
SPACE
Favourite place to ride?
I haven’t been to many European places yet, yet Mallorca stands out for me. Pollenca to the lighthouse at Formentor is exceptional.

Up or down mountains?
Up. I like going down, but there’s something about climbing that slows things down. With climbing I get a chance to enjoy the scenery and a moment to look around.
SPACE
Best moments?
Finishing the Red Bull Time Laps was not the best, but most satisfying. On a recent trip from London to Paris, we made it just in time before the ferry departed.
How long does it take you to change a flat?
I don’t have to. I have tubeless tyres and have never not made it home. When I first got my bike I got 3 flats in 1 week. Having gone tubeless I haven’t had one since.
SPACE
Advice to a new cyclist?
Keep enjoying it.
SPACE
Steel, Carbon or Ti?
I actually like aluminium. Carbon is good, but you don’t have to worry too much about an aluminium frame. I use mine a lot and it gives me peace of mind that it’s robust even if it drops.
SPACE
Grand tours or Classics?
Classics. It takes a little bit more panache to win.
Gels or potatoes?
Potatoes.
SPACE
Headwind or rain?
Headwind.

I wish I had been told that…
No, I won’t be shaving my legs.
What is it like being a Baroudeur?
The thing I enjoy the most is the genuine sense of community of the London Baroudeurs. The unwritten rule of ‘being considerate’ encourages everyone to get along nicely.
SPACE
Advice to someone wanting to join the Baroudeurs?
Give it a try. You need to explore the variety and find a format that works for you.

What does your cycling future hold?
I look forward to doing an event or two a year to keep me motivated. I recently did the Mallorca 312 and the Red Bull Time Lap. Next year I’m signed up for the Maratona dles Dolomites. I can’t wait.
