What’s with the cycling name?
I’m known around the club as Cosmic. This is only appropriate in the summer, as I have a set of Cosmic SLS wheels which make a very satisfying thrum… the name’s stuck all year round.

Wanna share your age?
Significantly younger when I’m on my bike.
Cosmic just went light speed

What’s your cycling history?
I used to bomb up and down the seafront on another Orbea when growing up in Portsmouth, and then did a fair bit of riding during University and then when living in Australia it was more of an occasional joy. The meaningful riding has been since I returned to the UK in 2011, and I’ve been a Strava data junky ever since.
Strictly beards, not stubble.

What do you do when you’re not riding a bike?
Thinking about riding my bike, and talk to people about it.

What bicycles do you own and more importantly, why do you own them?
I have a a Cannondale CAADX10 for gritty wet weather and winter riding, otherwise known as the Tank, and for the more pleasant (and faster days) I have an 2012 Orbea Orca which has been a work in progress since I got it, I think the only original thing left on it is the frame itself.

What have been your worst and best moments on a bicycle?
Worst moment, the time I buried myself to try to beat my Box hill PB solo (rather than getting a tow) to find out after the ride home that I’d matched it! Gutting…
Here’s a pic of Rule #9 from the dictionary. Yep, it’s Cosmic.

Best moments?
I have two favourite moments, 1) riding the 2014 individual time trial route with my mate Kieran finishing up at the Mont St Michel. 2) the second technically is both on and off the bike, but descend into Skipton with Max to see the first stage of the Tour in Yorkshire to only see Jensie in the break away. It took us less than 10 minutes to do the 12km descent into town, great fun, although the cattle grids were disconcerting.
Max and Cosmic cheering on the Jens!
