Cos the party’s over here…
Thank you
A big shout-out to everyone for making this year’s London Baroudeurs Awards Night possible. Just like the Academy Awards, we wait until the new year to reflect and celebrate people’s achievements.
Celebrate
With such an event we couldn’t possibly celebrate at just any old venue. After almost 10 years together, the team needed a space where there would be plenty of opportunity to talk, mingle and chase the person who won the trophy we all wanted. Who else could provide such a venue, but our very own Debra. Thank you, Debra.

The Build Up
Eleven awards are up for grabs. One more than last year, with the addition of the ‘Golden Duck’, in recognition of Team Time Trial efforts. But before we get to cheering, let’s get to celebrating:
Food, drinks and friends
Cycling naturally comes with good bedfellows – good food, drink, friends and more than a room full of bicycles.
Room with a view
Actually, more like rooms with plenty of views:
Getting down to business
Yes, it may look like we’re only here to enjoy ourselves, that may be true, but there is some serious voting and results to get to this evening
They couldn’t be here tonight
Yet, through the wonders of technology we are able to contact Baroudeurs who can’t make this evening. All the way in sunny Mallorca, we got hold of Simon ‘Van der Vader’ to honour him with well-earned award as ‘Most Improved Baroudeur’, (MIB). Simon has been in the running every year, but for 2017, he was ahead for miles with smiles.
Give it up for Simon – the MIB
Give me some honey
A Baroudeur we are all hoping to celebrate with, but couldn’t make it because of a serious cycling related accident, is Kostas ‘Honey Badger’. Very quickly this highly talented rider, Kostas has demonstrated flare on and off the bike; recently organising indoor training programmes with the UCC and now voted the most ‘Combative Baroudeur for his insatiable appetite for racing. It could only be the Honey Badger.
Hernán and the crew cheering Kostas, long distance – across the river, that is
And the award goes to…
The Golden Sidi: Lauren
Most improved Baroudeur: Simon
Combative Baroudeur: Kostas
International Baroudeur: John
Winningest Baroudeur: Dixon
Beast of Box (BoB) Men’s: Ben
BoB Women’s: Lauren
Golden Duck (new, awarded to the most impressive failure at the first hurdle): Alex, Ben, David and Glen for a ‘shambolic’ TTT – still a top 10 finish at the ToC
Wooden Spanner: Hernán
Most Barouderus Moment: Tom Mann for his foolhardy but beautiful attack in Km 5 of the Tour of Ayreshire
Baroudeur of the Year (by secret ballot on the evening): Lowell
The After Party
Lucky for us, we like to celebrate, so the party goes on.
Take it away D
It’s only the beginning
Let’s get this party started
Thank you
We like to say ‘thank you’. A special thank you to Debra ‘SmokeZog’ and David ‘Daddy Cool’ for hosting the evening. It wouldn’t be the same without their party-touch.
