Name? Niall (pronounced Neil) Slater
Do you have a cycling name and if so, what is it and why? They call me ‘The Ram!’
What do you do when you’re not riding a bike? Eating enough pasta to shock Tony Soprano. Thinking about what to eat next. Resting, and lots of it. “If you don’t have to stand up, sit down. If you don’t have to sit, lie down.”
What’s your cycling history? Born and raised in the Highlands, was a keen XC biker for many a year before moving far enough away from mountains to warrant getting a road bike. Fell in love with the single track roads and the climbs in and around Scotland before coming down to London in 2014 and joining the Baroudeurs.
What have been your best and favourite cycling moments?
Best: Cycling up the Trollstigen in Norway with a full pannier load. Conquering & surviving the Lecht in 45mph crosswinds.
Worst: Meeting the nasty end of a Transit van, being off my bike all summer and saying goodbye to my titanium frame.
