Old Skool vs. Neo Skool
Could it have been the skiers on the mountain that inspired Andrew Talansky to knock seconds off ‘Bertie’ Contador? Perhaps not.
Last year it was the veterans sweeping the GC board: Chris Horner immediately comes to mind, as the most mature rider to win a Grand Tour at the youthful age of 41! Sadly, since being the victim of a hit-and-run incident whilst training in Italy, we haven’t seen Horner in action.
Vincenzo Nibali isn’t old at all, but at 29 he is one of the most accomplished and experienced GC contenders, and the winner of last year’s Giro. Froome is also 29, and his palmares requires no listing here. Suffice to say he is the defending TdF winner. Outside the GC, there’s Purito, Valverde, and who can forget Jens Voigt?!
That aside, could Quintana’s win in the Giro and Talansky’s triumph on the Dauphine be a sign of things to come? Where Neo Skool challenges Old Skool?
20 days till Le Tour, and the world will see.
