There are kings and there are queens in cycling. We now have a Slovak World Champion, but a lesser known accomplishment is the Slovak queen of Artisitc Cycling, Nicole Frybortova. Originally of Czech descent, she now rides as part of the elite Artistic Cycling squad for Slovakia.
And we thought wheelies were cool
Competitive Artistic Cycling has been around for generations. It is essentially an arena for athletes battle it out by performing their extraordinary exercises for points awarded by judges. There are solo and team events that are synchronised, and are often described as fixed-gear gymnastics, or even ballet.
Overflowing
Nicole Frybortova’s is currently the elite European Champion in both the individual and pairs competition. There’s a lot of cycling buzz coming out of Slovakia, from Peter Sagan to MTB, but in terms of indoor training for the winter, and panache, there’s nothing quite like Artistic Cycling. Bravo Nicole!
And a little something like this
We mentioned MTB. Now keep your hands on the bar at all times…
Have you ever taken up Artistic Cycling? Got any tips? Leave your comments below…
I once did a track stand at some traffic lights, and if I’m quick, I can take both hands of the bar whilst frantically opening a Clif bar.
That ‘once’ has turned into more ‘often’, and a lot more stable since, Mr Lee-Valley Champ :-))
