Maverick, or Mav.
Why do you ride your bike?
I love being outdoors and seeing places from a different perspective. I also love the social aspect and the coffee which is an essential part of riding!
Favourite place to ride?
North of Sydney, Australia along the Hawkesbury river.
Up or down mountains?
Up, I love the suffering of climbing.
Riding with friends to complete the triple ascent of Ventoux (Club de Cingles). It was my first time ever riding a proper mountain and I learnt a lot!
How long does it take you to change a flat?
5 minutes and always easier with no someone standing over you.
Advice to a new cyclist?
To quote Eddie Merckx – Ride up grades don’t buy upgrades.
Steel, Carbon, Alu, Magnesium, or Ti?
I ride Carbon but I dream of one day owning a Ti bike.
Grand Tours or Classics?
Grand Tours. I love being able to watch cycling every day for 3 weeks.
Gels or potatoes?
My home made energy bars.
Fav pro, or retired pro?
Headwind or rain?
Rain, it is never as bad as you think it’s going to be.
Disc or rims?
Currently rim but my transition to disc is inevitable.
I wish I had been told that…
Chamois cream exists.
What is it like being a Baroudeur? (Not a trick question)
It’s great to be part of a welcoming and inclusive club. It’s also great to know there are a whole bunch of people who love riding and talking about bikes as much as I do.
What advice would you give someone wanting to join the Bs?
Ride your bike, that’s all that matters. Don’t be afraid to push yourself as that is the best way to progress your riding to the next level.
GC prediction for 2020?
If he rides, Roglic.
